Teen rapper, Bri, has to deal with ingrained racism at school, her aunt’s gang culture and her mum’s addiction, all while she's about to rise to stardom for her incredible rap skills.
If you’re into hip hop, this book is for you. It’s not my usual music vibe, yet this book intrigued me and gave me a new appreciation for the art. Not only is it a great education into the world of rap battles, it’s also a book about having a dream and a passion.
Bri’s dad was a famous rapper, but her mum couldn’t cope after he was murdered, she got addicted to drugs abandoning both Brinanna and her bro at her grandparents while she tried to get clean. Bri is a great rapper in her own right, and she’s on the come up, (gonna make it big in the rap world,) but she’s also dealing with a crush on her bestie, some serious poverty, gang culture and issues surrounding police brutality and racism.
